A harsh reality check I never wanted: Lost 12 ETH (~$50k at today’s price) plus 20k worth of other tokens last week to a perfectly crafted phishing attack. Perhaps 70k isn’t a lot to most people and as a founder, I hate admitting this—but even people “in the know” get hit. That fund was security and symbolic as to how long I’ve held onto this stash, now gone in a blink. If you’ve seen my earlier post: no, the point wasn’t to demand donation, it was merely an option of a kind gesture that I did not hold high expectations of. I’ve done the forensics I’ve reported the wallet address that’s still hodling my ETH, I reported it to metamask, and reached out to communities that might track down or assist with recovery. For those reading, I hope you don’t get me wrong, I’m sharing because this sucks, we don’t talk about wallet hygiene and security enough. For every high-profile hack, there are a hundred quiet, personal disasters—mine included. Let this be a reminder: We’re all human. Double-check those links, those junk mails, enable 2FA everywhere, and maybe audit your own security setup today. Do I not acknowledge the use of cold wallets? Do I not have ledger? There’s always a reason placing funds temporarily on hot wallets. If you’re feeling smug because it hasn’t happened to you… don’t. None of us are immune. Stay safe out there.
