One of the most potent ways to simplify and accelerate the L1 consensus layer is by looking into capping the validator set, providing a simpler path to SSF and other features unlocked by a new consensus, like much shorter slot times
In my view, the trade-offs are worth it, as long as we set ourselves up for success on that path by improving staking UX along with the consensus mechanism change. Beam chain is an ideal vehicle for this ofc, and with a smaller scope could imo ship earlier.
