⌠ Shelby — The Infrastructure Revolution for Real-Time Data⌡ In the past few days, it has indeed been swiped by many bloggers @shelbyserves this Shelby, after studying what I think may @jump_be the starting style of the return of the overlord, it is also the strategic fulcrum of @Aptos to prepare to regain the Move ecological city, if you have noticed the strong advance of Sui and Walrus in the last wave, Walrus's trend is basically to convince people, then if you miss it, you should pay attention to this Aptos and Jump now Crypto is a blockbuster battle with Shelby at its core. 𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂 💎 Why is Shelby a "battle" and not just an agreement? • Jump Crypto has been silent for a long time after Jump Group's internal planning and regulatory issues in the past, and this time it is obviously a strategic-level initiative to launch Shelby, which is basically a formal statement of "we are back". • As one of the representatives of the Move ecosystem, Aptos has a bright start but a little weak back, and Sui has taken the lead in grabbing the right to speak in the "decentralized data layer" through Walrus, and the emergence of Shelby is a direct response to Aptos' unyielding trend, not repeating the old path of Filecoin/Arweave, but breaking the cold storage framework and planting the flag of hot storage + AI + DePIN in the future infrastructure. • Compared with other chains that are still thinking about "how to store on the chain", Shelby directly stepped into the next level, that is, "how data flows, monetizes, and becomes a service on the chain". This is not just a paving for the future infrastructure of Aptos, but a direct benchmark against AWS S3, a fully on-chain industry rewrite, in the next few months, as long as you see any Web3 "content streaming service" start to talk about "instant access" or "data as assets" narrative, I believe that most of the names behind it, Shelby. 𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂 💎 The essence of the Web3 data problem: cold storage can't meet the needs of "hot applications" Although Web3 has made progress in computing, identity, and payment, "data" has always stayed in "cold storage models" such as Filecoin and Arweave, which are suitable for backup and long-term retention, but cannot cope with applications that require high immediacy such as live streaming, games, and AI models. Shelby clearly identified this pain point and proposed the following important demand scenarios: • AI models need to be updated and output in seconds • On-chain videos and live broadcasts need to quickly call data and calculate revenue in real time • Game assets should be dynamic on-chain and take effect immediately • DePIN device reporting data must be supplied and settled on-chain instantly 𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂 💎 What is Shelby? • Sub-second storage read speed (600ms memory), comparable to Web2 • Fully programmable: content can be set at a price, threshold, expiration date, and conditions of use • Interaction is income: Every time you watch, share, and use, the revenue will be settled to the creator instantly • Censorship-resistant and stable: Multi-node decentralized deployment not only solves the problem of single point of failure, but also ensures data sovereignty 𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂 💎 The two driving forces behind Shelby are the cornerstones of this war ▌Aptos Labs • Provides a high-throughput, low-latency blockchain coordination layer • 30,000 transactions per second • 600ms final confirmation •Move language for storage control and revenue routing ▌Jump Crypto • Transform the microsecond high-frequency trading architecture into a Web3 data layer •Support scenarios such as live streaming, AI, and games, which are read and written tens of thousands of times per second 𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂 💎 Can you really benchmark against AWS? • Filecoin/Arweave: Ideal for backing up and still images, with read latency of more than a few seconds, low programmability, and almost impossible monetization. • Shelby: Suitable for real-time streaming, AI, and game assets, with sub-second read speed (<600ms), full on-chain control, and automatic monetization of each interaction. • AWS S3: Home of real-time application and app data, fast but fully centralized, with all control and monetization logic tied to the platform. I may not feel the feeling of directly making a horizontal comparison, so I directly list the partners who are already using or testing, which can prove that the actual combat requirements have been partially verified, and Shelby is likely to be able to support the real large traffic and business logic: • NBCUniversal: Videos are on-chain and pay-per-view • Metaplex: NFTs can be updated, changed, and the number of interactions can be counted • Story Protocol: IP authorization and IP forwarding • Pipe Network, Double Zero, and KGeN: inter-chain data synchronization and AI output management 𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂 💎 What's next? Shelby is expected to launch Devnet in Q4 2025 and is still in accelerated development, so I think I can pay more attention to the following three audiences: • Developers: Build on-chain content interactions, AI interfaces, and game applications • Investors: This will be an important Infra target, which I think has a long cycle and the underlying value of the industry • Creators: Users who want to get rid of the shackles of Web2 traffic and directly turn content into assets 📌 Pay attention to the official promotion 👉 @shelbyserves as soon as possible 📌 Go to the official website and fill in the email to get the latest news 𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂𒅂 #CharmingPost @ethos_network $KAITO #Opnup #Openledger @GiveRep #Kaito @thep33l @cookiedotfun #SNAPS @sparkdotfi @fantasy_top_ #TheP33L @KaitoAI @virtuals_io #VirgenPoints #GiveRep @BasisOS $BIOS @MirraTerminal @ATTNtoken #RiverPtsAirdrop #River @aimi_xyz @stayloudio #Loudio @River4fun @yapyo_arb @RiverdotInc #Save #FIL 🤝 #本篇文章為合作推廣

From FIL to AR, the track of on-chain storage has always been a big cake that a lot of capital wants to eat but can't eat, and this time Aptos Labs and Jump Crypto have also joined hands to participate in the battle, they have cut the AI track and made Shelby, the first "hot storage" infrastructure in Web3. What is Hot Storage? Only those who can run "high-frequency interactive content" such as AI, video, and games are called that. As a simple example, let's say you post a limited-time video on the chain and set it to "play button once per click, deduct 0.01 U to your wallet". Traditional on-chain storage can't do it at all, because the play button is clicked, the video has to wait for half a day to load, the charging mechanism has to be connected to another contract, there is no sense of experience, and once the data is uploaded, copyright control and dynamic permissions cannot be done But Shelby can do it: 1. The video is turned on in seconds, and the response is millisecond 2. Automatically settle the income every time you play 3. Permissions and encryption logic are written into the protocol layer, and creators define their own rules 4. And it will never be disconnected, so you don't have to worry about centralized cloud convulsions It makes "storing data" a money-making business, and whoever clicks on your videos, watches your content, and uses your tools can make money. You will be charged once you use it. In addition to Fil and AR, there are other on-chain storage solutions on the market, such as Walrus, which focuses on a "cheap archive". However, the positioning is completely different from Shelby: Shelby is more like a decentralized version of AWS S3, focusing on high-performance hot data, designed for real-time interactive content such as AI training, chain game status, and streaming media playback. Walrus is more like a backblaze on the chain, suitable for infrequent access and cheap archiving, such as NFT metadata, historical transaction records, etc. But it is slow to read and write, does not support dynamic updates, and has no monetization model, and is more of an "on-chain cold room". Let's take a look at the underlying technology: Shelby uses dedicated fiber + Clay encoding + hierarchical network, sub-second response, and dynamic permission control; Walrus relies on erasure coding redundancy on Sui + full-chain verification, which has high gas cost and high latency. From the perspective of commercial implementation, Shelby currently has partners such as NBCUniversal, Metaplex, and Story Protocol, and pays more attention to compliance and closed-loop data revenue. Walrus, on the other hand, is mainly a long-tail project on Sui, and the depth and breadth of applications need to be expanded. But in the end, it depends on whether the market buys or not. NBCUniversal, Metaplex, and Story Protocol are the first brands that Shelby has partnered with, so let's continue to pay attention to what these large customers say about it, after all, the storage track, the business can complete the closed loop, and the project with cash flow can rush to the top.

Filecoin, founded in 2014, is a peer-to-peer (P2P), open-source data storage network that uses blockchain technology to store files reliably and verifiably. Anyone needing to store their files or with storage space to spare can join and participate in the network. Consider it a cold storage, but instead of being owned by a single entity such as Google or Amazon, it is owned by everyone.

Data storage on Filecoin is entirely private; it is fully encrypted and secured, meaning no one, not even your storage provider, can read it. Additionally, Filecoin users do not need to worry about storage space because the network has a capacity of 2.5 billion gigabytes, 40 times the size of the internet.

Filecoin employs Proof of Replication (PoRep) and Proof of Spacetime (PoSt) rather than Proof of Stake (PoS). According to PoRep, miners will be compensated with FIL tokens if they can demonstrate that they received the cryptographically encoded data from the client. On the other hand, PoSt ensures that the data is kept for the time period specified in the client's contract.

Users typically pay with FIL tokens to store their files with storage providers. The price of storage on Filecoin is determined by the network's demand and supply for storage, and anyone can participate. Users are not limited to a small and defined set of storage providers but can store their files with any storage provider offering any deal available on the network. This enables users to store and access their files at extremely low prices.

Filecoin's native cryptocurrency, FIL, serves as a payment medium. Users pay FIL for storage services, and storage providers earn FIL units for staking storage space. The Filecoin blockchain immutably records FIL transactions as well as storage proofs generated by storage providers.

FIL price and tokenomics

Filecoin's ICO was one of the biggest successes in the blockchain industry, raising a total of $205.8 million. With an initial funding goal of $40 million, its initial token price was pegged at $5 when introduced into the market.

It has a maximum supply of 2 billion tokens with a market capitalization of $1.7 billion. In the fall of 2020, Filecoin organized Space Race to increase the network's data capacity by 400 pebibytes. 400 miners participated in the testnet phase and were awarded 3.5 million FIL tokens.

Filecoin is a deflationary asset with a certain amount of FIL burned with every transaction. The fees burned are sent to an irrevocable burn address to compensate for the network expenditure of resources. The idea is based on Ethereum's EIP1559.

About the founders

Juan Benet co-founded Filecoin in 2014 with the California-based company Protocol Labs, of which he is the CEO.

Benet is a Stanford University graduate with a master's degree in computer science. Before Filecoin, he was the co-founder and CTO of Loki Studios, a mobile gaming studio focused on developing location-aware games. He also founded Athena Academy, a non-profit private school in Palo Alto devoted to educating students with dyslexia.

According to official documents, Filecoin secured $205.8 million during one of the industry's largest funding rounds. The project even received backing from venture capitalists Sequoia and Andreessen Horowitz.

Filecoin highlights

First, the popular browser Brave added Filecoin to their wallet, exposing Filecoin to over 56 million Brave users. This integration helped in creating awareness among Brave users about Filecoin.

Second, instead of temporary file storage, Filecoin partnered with Lighthouse to offer their users permanent file storage within the Filecoin ecosystem, coming at a one-time cost. On Filecoin, files are removed if clients stop paying storage fees, so offering permanent file storage is essential for the most important files or irrefutable information, such as NFTs.

Next, the Filecoin Foundation recently donated $10 million worth of Filecoins (50,000 FIL tokens) to the Internet Archive after its founder joined the Filecoin Foundations board of advisors. The donation is aimed at broadening the Internet Archive's reach to help more people across the globe educate themselves.

Finally, Filecoin had a v16 network upgrade, codenamed Skyr, and switched to using the Wasm-based Filecoin Virtual Machine to operate its basic functionality. This upgrade is the first step toward enabling user programmability on Filecoin and is the network's most significant change since its launch almost two years ago.

Filecoin FAQ

How to mine FIL?

In the Filecoin network, there are two different forms of mining: storage and retrieval. In storage mining, users generate FIL by storing data for customers and performing cryptographic proofs to continuously verify the data's integrity and ensure that the miner has not altered the data. In retrieval mining, users acquire FIL by winning bids and mining fees for a specific file, which are exclusively based on the file size's market value.
